Portals people read - and that monetise.

We have worked with leading companies and startups

Challenges

Time on article and the subscription decision are settled on the same three screens

  • „People arrive from social, read a paragraph and leave.”

UX audit of reading (page rhythm, hierarchy, breaks), redesign of typography and components, validation with eye-tracking or a 5-second test.

  • „Everyone sees the paywall and a handful buy the subscription.”

Paywall strategy (hard / soft / dynamic), conversion-flow design, A/B testing of moments and messaging. Working with subscription analytics.

  • „The portal has grown over the years and rewriting it from scratch is out of reach.”

A staged migration plan (article first, then homepage, then account), building a design system, support for the newsroom and dev team.

Who it is for

News portals, specialist services, subscription platforms

Whatever the publisher profile - we design modularly, with the newsroom’s daily work in the CMS in mind.

  • News and information portals

Large general and themed newsrooms. A modular article system (lead, longform, live, audio), a personalised feed, dark mode, programmatic ads wired into the layout without harming LCP / CLS.

  • Specialist and vertical services

Industry portals with premium content - reports, analyses, an expert database. Paywall or invitation-only access, smart search, content bundles as a sellable product.

  • Subscription and content platforms

E-books, audiobooks, podcasts, courses. Sign-up → time-to-listen onboarding, a personal library, recommendations, monetisation via subscription or a hybrid model.

Process

Five steps - from the first conversation to post-launch measurement

We scale scope to the type of publisher. For news portals we usually start with the article page (where most sessions from Google begin), for specialist services - with information architecture and monetisation, for subscription platforms - with onboarding and the conversion flow.

  1. 30 min

    Discovery call - 30 minutes

Online, with the lead designer. We get to know the product, the metrics you judge it by, and the regulatory context it operates in.

  2. Week 1–2

    Audit and discovery

Analytics, session recordings, user interviews, heuristic review. The barriers people actually hit become design hypotheses.

  3. Week 3–6

    UX/UI design

Wireframes, a prototype you can click through, the final interface. Documentation written for the team that will ship it - tokens, states and responsive behaviour included.

  4. Week 6–7

    Validation

Tests with real users, or an A/B test in production. The design changes on the strength of what we saw, before it reaches code.

  5. After launch

    Delivery and care

We work side by side with your developers - implementation review, fixes, additions to the library. After launch we measure and come back with the next hypotheses.

Client voices

What our clients say

  • „Working with the Wzór team was a genuinely great experience! They always answered our questions quickly and were flexible about our comments. They have no shortage of creative ideas and are at the same time thoroughly reliable and on time. The end result fully met our expectations; we recommend them to anyone looking for professionals who care.”
Maja Wieloch-Silecka Operations Director, Bosfor Group
  • „Our clients expect us to act fast and effectively across a very wide scope - from building a brand, through a website with a store, to running an effective sales campaign. Not an easy task, but doable when you have a tight-knit team and partners who take on challenges on the fly. For us, quality, accountability and commitment are key, and working with UX Agency Wzór gives us that 100%.”
Piotr Alberski Chief Operating Officer, Agencja XO Media
  • „Our cooperation with UX Agency Wzór started with our own website. We really liked the way they work, so we decided to subcontract projects for our clients to them on a White Label basis. We loved their workflow, the way they hand projects over to our team, their documentation and their work on the design system. Now we can take on bigger risks.”
Mateusz Swół Chief Operating Officer, Sellace

FAQ

Questions that come up most often

Do you work with paywalls and subscription models?

Yes - conversion-flow design (article → paywall → checkout → account), A/B testing of display moments, user segmentation (anonymous / registered / metered). We advise on platform choice (Piano, Poool, native solution).

Do you design for programmatic advertising and header bidding?

Yes - in line with the publisher’s policy and Core Web Vitals. We design native and display placements so they don’t block LCP / CLS, plus layouts that withstand dynamic ad insertion (sticky, in-feed, anchor).

Mobile-first or responsive?

Mobile-first - most media traffic is mobile (typically 70–85%). We start the design from mobile screens, then scale to tablet and desktop. We optimise the reading experience for gestures (swipe, pinch, double-tap).

Do you help with migration to a design system and CMS?

Yes - an audit of the current component portfolio, a migration plan (first stage: article, second: homepage, third: account), building a design system (tokens + Storybook), supporting the newsroom in learning the new workflow. CMS-agnostic - Drupal, WordPress, headless (Sanity, Contentful, Strapi).
