Grocery Retail

We design apps for online supermarkets, discount chains, q-commerce and food delivery. We work with a sixty-item cart, a two-hour delivery slot, fresh produce that isn’t in the photo - and loyalty that has to keep the customer for a hundred returns, not one campaign.

We have worked with leading companies and startups

Challenges

Online grocery goes to whoever makes a big basket and a delivery slot simple

  • „A customer adds dozens of products and at that size the interface stops being usable.”

UX audit of the shopping list and cart, redesign of quick adding from the category level (without entering the PDP), grouping of fresh and frozen products, a re-order mechanism from history. We measure average cart size and time to complete the list.

  • „Choosing a delivery slot is where most people give up.”

Workflow research with the customer and delivery dispatcher, redesign of slot selection (calendar availability, time-based pricing, express vs standard options), presentation of seasonal constraints (holidays, weekends) without hiding data behind a collapsed list.

  • „The loyalty programme has sign-ups, and no visible returns behind them.”

Motivation research with regular and occasional customers, redesign of the loyalty mechanics (points, coupons, mission-based rewards), integration with the promotional leaflet and personalised offers. We measure cohort retention and purchase frequency.

Who it is for

Supermarket, q-commerce, delivery - three models, one customer on the go

Whatever the model - we hand over the design in a format readable for the development team, with documentation of POS, OMS, fulfilment-system and payment-provider integration.

  • Online supermarkets and discount chains

Apps and online stores for large supermarket chains, grocery discounters, click & collect. Information architecture for 30,000+ SKUs (fresh, frozen, alcohol, baby, home), delivery slots, re-ordering from history, integration with loyalty programmes and promotional leaflets.

  • Q-commerce and dark stores

Instant-shopping apps (15–30 minutes), platforms for dark-store operators, picking tools for pickers. The specifics: real-time stock, minimum order value, abstract logistics constraints (weight, dimensions) presented in human terms.

  • Food delivery and diet catering

Restaurant and delivery marketplaces, diet-catering apps, courier and restaurateur panels. Dish configuration, dietary preferences and allergens, real-time tracking, integration with kitchen and logistics systems.

Process

Five steps - from the first conversation to post-launch measurement

We scale scope to the product. For an online supermarket the emphasis is on the multi-item cart, delivery slots and re-order mechanisms. For q-commerce - on delivery time, real-time product availability, and presenting the minimum order. For food delivery - on dish configuration, dietary preferences and real-time courier tracking.

  1. 30 min

    Discovery call - 30 minutes

Online, with the lead designer. We get to know the product, the metrics you judge it by, and the regulatory context it operates in.

  2. Week 1–2

    Audit and discovery

Analytics, session recordings, user interviews, heuristic review. The barriers people actually hit become design hypotheses.

  3. Week 3–6

    UX/UI design

Wireframes, a prototype you can click through, the final interface. Documentation written for the team that will ship it - tokens, states and responsive behaviour included.

  4. Week 6–7

    Validation

Tests with real users, or an A/B test in production. The design changes on the strength of what we saw, before it reaches code.

  5. After launch

    Delivery and care

We work side by side with your developers - implementation review, fixes, additions to the library. After launch we measure and come back with the next hypotheses.

Client voices

What our clients say

  • „Working with the Wzór team was a genuinely great experience! They always answered our questions quickly and were flexible about our comments. They have no shortage of creative ideas and are at the same time thoroughly reliable and on time. The end result fully met our expectations; we recommend them to anyone looking for professionals who care.”
Maja Wieloch-Silecka Operations Director, Bosfor Group
  • „Our clients expect us to act fast and effectively across a very wide scope - from building a brand, through a website with a store, to running an effective sales campaign. Not an easy task, but doable when you have a tight-knit team and partners who take on challenges on the fly. For us, quality, accountability and commitment are key, and working with UX Agency Wzór gives us that 100%.”
Piotr Alberski Chief Operating Officer, Agencja XO Media
  • „Our cooperation with UX Agency Wzór started with our own website. We really liked the way they work, so we decided to subcontract projects for our clients to them on a White Label basis. We loved their workflow, the way they hand projects over to our team, their documentation and their work on the design system. Now we can take on bigger risks.”
Mateusz Swół Chief Operating Officer, Sellace

FAQ

Questions that come up most often

Do you design for POS, OMS and dark-store fulfilment integrations?

Yes - we run app design in the context of integration with the shop’s and warehouse’s operational systems. We’ve worked on projects where dark-store fulfilment and real-time stock decide what the customer sees as available. We write documentation in a format that eases mapping the customer journey to warehouse operations and courier routes.

How do you design re-ordering and shopping lists?

Re-ordering groceries is ninety percent of traffic in a mature app - not a new customer. We design favourites lists, re-ordering from history (the whole cart or selected items), proactive suggestions for products about to run out at home. No hiding favourites behind a “star” icon that customers read as a wishlist.

Do you work with q-commerce and 15–30 minute delivery?

Yes - the q-commerce specifics are a narrow cart (5–15 products), minimum order value, dimensional constraints. We design the communication of those constraints in human terms (e.g. “the package size is about a large watermelon”) instead of dry centimetres and grams the customer has no intuition for.

Do you design loyalty programmes for grocery chains?

Yes - loyalty in grocery isn’t a cherry on top, it’s the foundation of retention. We design a consistent experience across the app, the brick-and-mortar shop (scanning the card at the till), the promotional leaflet and personalised offers. We measure the share of logged-in customers at purchase and cohort retention, not the number of card downloads.
